SHERIDAN COUNTY COMMISSIONER

I am a Constitutionally Conservative Republican. I am asking for ​your vote in this upcoming election for County Commissioner. I ​believe that it is important for fiscally responsible, conservative ​values, and principles influence and shape county government.

I’m a lifelong Wyoming resident, born in Sheridan and have lived here for the last 45 years. One grandfather ​homesteaded north of Sheridan before 1910. My other grandfather was one of the first coal miners in the Acme-​Monarch-Deets coal mines around 1915.

Growing up, I was interested in Agriculture and Agri-business, with a passion for Rodeo. I started riding bulls when I ​was twelve years old and gave it up around age twenty-four. Through it all, I learned invaluable lessons about ​accountability, integrity, and perseverance.

My dad lived through the Great Depression and fought in WW II. He taught me the “value of a dollar” and to ​always strive to improve myself. My family couldn’t afford to pay for college, so I took college classes as time and ​money was available while raising my family. I worked for 40 years in civil construction and surface mining ​industry, mostly mid-management, surveying, and engineering.

Since “retiring” I started an Agribusiness. I do custom hay harvesting, raise cattle, compete in and produce ​competitive cow & horse events. My main education came from on-the-job experience. A person may have an ​education – but not the ability to apply wisdom. Life’s lessons have taught me that everyone is responsible for ​their own bottom line!

PROPERTY TAXES

We all feel them! Because of the rapidly inflated prices of real estate, and our Neighborhood Evaluation form of computing Property Tax by ​the state, our taxes have increased exponentially in recent history! Faster than inflation. I believe that it would be possible to lower the mill ​levy, without creating a deficit in county infrastructure maintenance or rural fire district funding. I also believe that each board of County ​Commissioners in this state, has an inherent duty to the tax paying citizens to use every option available to lower the tax burden. Not just ​pass the challenge on to the state legislature.

TRUST & INTEGRITY

Recently, we have witnessed these issues first hand. The dissol8ution attempt of the SAWS Board, that would leave all residents living ​outside the city limits who utilize SAWS water without recourse, was an exposure of lack of transparency. The recent refusal of the County ​Commissioners to follow state statute in choosing a replacement for a resigning Commissioner, shows not only a lack of integrity, but also an ​implication that they feel that they are “above the Law”. The removal of duties annotated in the state statutes of the duly elected County ​Clerk all point to a lack of integrity and transparency. All the Contracts and Lawyers in the world can never replace the given word or a ​handshake! Please help me restore trust and integrity to our county commission!

PUBLIC SAFETY

Our Governor recently vetoed HB0125, eliminating gun free zones throughout the state. I believe this would have been a VERY EFFECTIVE law ​to keep our community safe! Our children are special and deserve our protection! I will continue working to keep classrooms safe and utilize ​my position as a County Commissioner to actively promote Public Safety as well as School Safety. The “Right of the people to keep and bear ​arms” is protected by the Constitution of the United States and Wyoming.

PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS

The County Commissioners should support farmers and ranchers whenever possible and not make decisions that may infringe upon their private property rights. Some farmers and ranchers are experiencing undue pressure to sell everything and subdivide their land; it should be their decision if they choose to so.

EFFECTIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT

It is of utmost importance to diligently provide funding, provide resources and support for first responders to do their job properly. Law enforcement should be treated with the respect they deserve. Every citizen should play an active role in the prevention of crime, even placing a call for suspicious activity.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

: Every department in the County needs to justify their “needs” not “wants” in the annual budget funding. Since funding affects the taxpayer, it should be evaluated and spent judiciously in funding essential County services.

LISTENING & PROBLEM SOLVING

It is incumbent upon the county commissioners to be available to citizens, not only to listen to their concerns, but actively follow through to a positive resolution.

ECONOMIC GROWTH

County Government should use its resources to provide a positive economic atmosphere that would be attractive to all business and industry concerns and not used to aid a single business or industry.

ETHICS

I lived by a “code of ethics” my whole life. I will not make a campaign promise to get your vote and renege after the election. What ​does that mean to you? Simply put, I “ride for the brand.” That brand will be Sheridan County, and you, the citizens of Sheridan County ​will be who I work for and not the other way around!

I’m a cowboy not a politician.

I don’t make it a practice to talk about my accomplishments and past ​deeds or have the need to make myself look better than others.

If elected, it is my job to represent the constituency of Sheridan ​County not my own desires or pet projects.

I will do my best to come up with solutions when confronted with ​problems. I won’t have all the answers.

That is where you, the voter comes in. Your input will always be ​appreciated.
